Hollabrunn is a district capital in the western Weinviertel.

Hollabrunn is located west of the Ernstbrunn Forest in the Göllersbach valley. The municipality includes the following localities:

getting there

By plane

By train

  • From Vienna (e.g. Meidling, Hauptbahnhof below, Landstraße, Praterstern, Floridsdorf, the S-Bahn goes to Hollabrunn and sometimes beyond to Retz. Stop along the way in Korneuburg and Stockerau.
  • The regional trains Vienna-Znojmothat do not stop at all stops on the way. In Znojmo there are connections to regional trains of the Czech Railways (ČD) from / to Moravské Budějovice and Jíhlava (Iglau).

Hollabrunn train station is located approx. 500 m west of the city center at the end of Bahnstrasse.

By bus

The bus station is located on the station forecourt. Regional bus connections to neighboring communities start from there.

In the street

  • The Weinviertel Expressway S3 E59 of Stockerau bypasses Hollabrunn in the west (Hollabrunn south, middle and north junctions).
  • The S3 (roundabout) ends at the Hollabrunn Nord junction and continues as B303 E59 fort: Hollabrunn - Kleinhaugsdorf (- Znojmo - Jíhlava)
  • Mistelbacher Bundesstrasse B40 Hollabrunn - Ernstbrunn - Mistelbach - Wilfersdorf (B7) - Zistersdorf - Dürnkrut
  • Waldviertel federal road B2 Schöngrabern (5 km north of Hollabrunn) - horn - Schrems (- Třeboň)

The city of Hollabrunn itself is easy to explore on foot. You need a vehicle to go to other parts of the municipality, as regional buses rarely run.

Hollabrunn

  • Plague column. With statue of the Virgin Mary (1681), extended by 1713 four statues of saints (Sebastian, Rochus, Franz Xaver, Johann von Nepomuk) on the main square.
  • Floriani fountain. With a cast iron statue of St. Florian (1862), also in the main square.
  • Parish Church of St. Ulrich. Erected in 1336 in Gothic style and modified in Baroque style in the 17th century. Neo-Gothic high altar (1908).
  • Branch church in the garden city. 1970 to 1972, glass window wall by Franz Deéd, mosaic by Hermann Bauch.
  • Old court mill. Originally a mansion, later a mill, today museum and venue. In the courtyard there is a baroque wayside shrine from the 17th century.
  • Row houses on the brook promenade. From 1972, architect Ottokar Uhl; planned with the participation of the residents.

Other localities

  • Pee stone, Raschala. Allegedly Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart relieved himself here on one of his trips to Prague. With this stone the "Ringelreih'n am Pinkelstein" takes place.
  • Raschala basement alley. Well-preserved typical wine cellars of the region.
  • Glockenberg, Raschala. Lookout point.
  • Sonnberg Castle. Erected from 1066, in 1596 the outdated and destroyed castle was rebuilt at another location in Sonnberg. It has been home to the penal institution since 1973 Sonnberg Prison with space for 350 prisoners.
  • Filial church St. Kunigunde, Weyerburg. Baroque-style hall building with a medieval core, baroque high altar (Lukas von Hildebrandt?) And late Gothic figure of a saint from the 15th century.
  • Weyerburg Castle. At its core, it is a high medieval fortified four-wing complex that was expanded in the 16th century. In front of the castle there is a baroque figure of St. John of Nepomuk (around 1730).
  • Pillory column, Weyerburg. 16th Century.
  • Plague chapel, Weyerburg. 1633.
  • Folly Cross, Weyerburg. Eight-sided pillar on a base, which has four defensive heads below the profiled square top (15th / 16th century).
