Railway stations

Aleksandrów Kujawski

One of the most magnificent railway stations in Poland, currently under renovation. Aleksandrów Kujawski was a border station on the Russian-Prussian border. On October 24, 1861, the Bydgoszcz-Toruń railway line was opened, and on December 1 of the same year, the Łowicz-Kutno line was opened. The first building of the station was built in 1862. On July 1, 1867, the line to Ciechocinek was launched. In February 1863, the station employees - an insurgent Jan Karłowicz and an employee of the customs chamber - Konstanty Adamowicz intercepted secret Russian-Prussian correspondence about the cooperation of the partitioning powers against the Polish uprising. The National Government has published a document that compromised Prussia and Russia in the international arena, obtained at the station. The railway station in Aleksandrów was also a place where people, weapons and money were transported. In the 1880s, the station was expanded, at the same time enriching it with a large southern wing, and in the northern wing, magnificent court apartments were arranged. On September 3 and 4, 1879, Russian Tsar Alexander II and German Emperor Wilhelm I met in the apartments. Regaining independence, along with the liquidation of the border, reduced the role of the station.

Biała Podlaska

The train station from 1928 resembling a manor house. In the middle there is a large hall with a mezzanine and several side rooms. Interesting historic buildings nearby: a water tower, a building of a single-channel engine house from the time of construction Warsaw-Terespol Railway (now converted into a commercial facility), a wooden house of the station manager from the beginning of the 20th century with a park.

Białystok

The railway station in Białystok was built in 1861 at the construction of the Warsaw-Petersburg railway. It is considered to be one of the most beautiful railway stations in Poland. At the station, there is a plaque commemorating Marshal Piłsudski's trips to Vilnius. It is another railway station after renovation.

Bielsko-Biala

The most important railway station in the south of the Silesian Voivodeship. It was established in 1855 on the Northern Railway route connecting Vienna and Krakow. During the Austrian partition, it was one of the largest railway stations in Galicia. The interior of the building is decorated with beautiful Pompeian-style patterns, and the outer façade has a neo-Renaissance character. The whole building, with its shape, refers to the mainstream of Austrian provincial stations. In the years 1994-2001, a small open-air museum operated at the station, the fleet of which was finally transported to the locomotive depot in Krakow and the open-air museum in Chabówka.

Chabówka

One of the largest in Poland and probably in Europe collection of standard and narrow gauge rolling stock. The collection includes not only steam locomotives, but also diesel and electric locomotives (including ET21-001, EU07-001). The biggest "gems" of the open-air museum run by PKP Cargo are: the Ol12 steam locomotive, the OKz32-2 steam locomotive, the SN61 motor car, the ET21-001 electric locomotive or many unique passenger carriages. A platform for handling tourist trains has been built on the premises of the museum. For its construction, elements from the former Kraków Główny railway station were used. There is also an interesting restaurant with a railway decor in Chabówka.

Czestochowa

The passenger station in Częstochowa has four platforms, of which platform 2, 565 m long, is considered to be the longest in Poland. The present railway station from 1996 covers both sides of the station - from Aleja Wolności a building with a spacious hall, where travelers have three levels at their disposal, two of which are located on terraces. The whole is covered with a huge roof supported by 22 pylons, 11.5 m high and 1 m in diameter, which also covers part of the courtyard. On the eastern side (Piłsudskiego Street) there is a smaller, two-story building. Both are connected by a passage above the platforms, which houses a waiting room, commercial outlets and the station chapel. In the vicinity of the station, you can see the monument of the TKt48-151 steam locomotive.

Dęblin

Narrow-gauge steam locomotive T49-112 "Ryś" by production Block from 1949, tendrzak. Produced in Poland since 1946, intended to work mainly on forest and industrial railways, with a track gauge of 600/750/785 mm. It was a version of the German Ries steam locomotive. The one in the photo is equipped with a tender (ordinary tendons have a coal box and do not have a separate coal wagon). Currently, it is placed as a monument at the station in Dęblin. There is a station complex from the times here Koleje Nadwiślańska - the main, brick station building from 1900 with the adjoining one-story wooden building from 1924. Worth seeing are: the former engine shed, water tower, liner house and control room.

Elk

The railway station in Ełk was established in 1868. Currently, the building is after renovation. At the station, diesel and electric traction is changed (for long-distance trains). There is a depot next to the station, which was also supposed to serve electric locomotives, hence part of the hall was demolished, but the investment itself was never completed. The narrow-gauge railway begins its run next to the standard-gauge station. At the Ełk Wąsk station. you can admire both standard-gauge and narrow-gauge rolling stock. Steam locomotives pay special attention Px48, Forest and passenger carriages type 1Aw.

Gniezno

The construction of the railway station in Gniezno is related to the implementation of the investment, which was the Poznań-Toruńska-Bydgoska railway. In 1868, the construction of the Gniezno station began, and the station was opened in 1872. In 1875, the railway line from Oleśnica (via Jarocin and Września) reached Gniezno. On November 1, 1887, Gniezno was connected with Nakło, and in 1894 the extension of the line to Chojnice was launched. The train station in Gniezno is after renovation. Gniezno is a large junction station. Particularly noteworthy are the Gn-A and Gn-2 signal boxes, shaped semaphores and mechanical barrier discs (the station has the largest number of shaped semaphores in Poland - as many as 24), most of which are still operational. It is impossible not to notice the crane for carburizing steam locomotives and one of the largest locomotive complexes (steam sheds) in Greater Poland and Poland. The run begins near the Gniezno station The Gniezno Narrow Gauge Railway, which was the first railway in Poland to put a motor car into operation.

Gniezno Winiary

One of the 2 standard-gauge stations and one of the 3 stations (taking into account the narrow-gauge railway) located in Gniezno. The station was established in the then village of Winiary in 1894. The lines to Nakło / Chojnice and Sława Wielkopolska branch at the station. These lines are currently used only for freight traffic. At the Gniezno Winiary station, there are shaped semaphores and original German railway traffic control devices (built as part of the "Otto" modernization program). Tourist trains occasionally arrive at the station.

Gniezno Narrow.

The Gniezno Narrow-Gauge station is now located on the site of the former freight station. In 1884, the passenger station was closer to the standard-gauge station in Gniezno. The expansion of the locomotive sheds complex made it necessary to liquidate the passenger station at the standard gauge railway station and the station was organized at the existing freight station. From Gniezno, a narrow-gauge railway travels to Ostrów (Anastazewo was the border of the Russian and Prussian partitions, the section Ostrowo - Anastazewo is currently closed) through Niechanowo, Witkowo, Powidz.

Gorzów Wielkopolski

The railway station in Gorzów Wielkopolski is one of the most important stations on the former German Ostbahn main line, i.e. the Eastern Railway. Particularly noteworthy is the longest technical monument in Poland, which is the Gorzów railway flyover. The construction of the flyover started in 1910 and was completed in 1914. The motivation for the construction of the flyover was the large number of single-level crossings (cars / railways). Frequent closing of the gates at crossings resulted in increased traffic jams and hindered the harmonious development of the city. The total length of the flyover is 2,116 meters. The building has about 70 parabolic arches, separated by five steel viaducts at Herberta, Chrobrego, Wodna, Młyńska and Garbary Streets. However, 1,700 m is entered in the register of monuments, as some buildings are probably not included.

Helium

Hel Peninsula 38 km long, at its narrowest point between Kuźnica and Chałupy, it is less than 100 m wide. This can be clearly seen when going by train to Hel. Through the windows of the carriages, you can observe the shores of the open sea and the Bay of Puck, located close to each other. Below you can see a series 754 diesel locomotive (commonly known as "Nurek") leading the ExpressInterCity "Jantar" train to Warsaw West.

Jarocin

The railway station in Jarocin is the last junction station in the Greater Poland Voivodeship with the original red brick building preserved. There are lines from Jarocin to Poznań, Ostrów Wielkopolski, Leszno, Oleśnica and Gniezno. After the renovation, the building regained its former face. Particular attention is paid to the square in front of the station and the renovated paintings on the walls of the station. There is also a modernist water tower at the station, and on the site of the former locomotive shed, the Wielkopolska Railway Society runs a museum that collects rolling stock and souvenirs related to the railway. At the station in Jarocin, there is a monument to the Ol49-1 steam locomotive.

Kąty Wrocławskie

Railway station in Kąty Wrocławskie from the 1840s, built as an element of the Freiburg Railway Line connecting Wrocław with Jelenia Góra. The present building of the station with a wooden platform shelter was built in the years 1867-1870. There is a container terminal in the vicinity.

Kepno

Unique railway station. There are only 2 stations of this type in Poland - two-level stations. Apart from Kostrzyn nad Odrą, such a facility is also located in Kępno. The railway reached Kępno for the first time in 1872. Kępno was then connected with Wrocław via Oleśnica and Syców. The development of the station was also possible thanks to the Kluczbork-Poznań railway running through Kępno. After the renovation, the station looks magnificent. At the station in Kępno, there is a statue of a steam engine TKt48. Steam locomotives of this type served connections to Namysłów and Oleśnica until 1992.

Kielce

The history of the Kielce railway station dates back to 1885, when it was launched Iwangorodzko-Dąbrowska Railway Line. Until 1966, its function was performed by the Art Nouveau railway station built during the partitions. In its place in 1971, a modern, socialist realist building was erected - an example of the architecture of the Polish People's Republic, which was characterized, among others, by experiments like this one. The ceiling of the station visible in the photo, apart from interesting aesthetic values, improves the acoustics of the building. The railway plays an important role in the economic development of Kielce, which in recent years has become a significant economic center.

Railway line Kłodzko Główny - Kudowa-Zdrój

The railway line No. 309 was opened in stages. In 1902, the episode opened KłodzkoDuszniki-Zdrój, and in 1904 the line reached Kudowa-Zdrój. In the years 1945-1948 there was a connection from Kudowa to the Czech Republic Nachodhowever, the line was pulled down. The construction of the line was very difficult. The route abounds in many small radius curves, often meandering in serpentines. The most famous engineering structure on the line is the stone viaduct in Lewin Kłodzki. Also noteworthy is the Duszniki Zdrój station, which is located on a rocky shelf. The railway was called "Weberbahn" (from German it means the weavers' railway), because the main reason for the construction of the route was the desire to improve the conditions and economic development of this area of the Kłodzko Valley - there were many weaving and bleaching factories here. After the route was renovated, the regional trains were operated by rail buses of Koleje Dolnośląskie.

Lublin

The Lublin railway station from 1877 was established as part of the connection between Lublin and Warsaw in the form of the Vistula Railway. It is the most important railway station in the voivodeship. A thorough renovation has brought it back to its former glory. Lublin's railroad traditions are commemorated by plaques placed on the facade of the station and a monument to a fast steam engine Pt47-157 |. The interior of the station with an interesting design and illumination is worth seeing. Also noteworthy is the decorative entrance portal with a large clock above it. The shape of the building resembles defensive structures, but it has retained the lightness of the structure. The rank is raised by the crowned eagle on the top - a symbol of independent Poland. Lublin is one of three cities in Poland where trolleybuses run.

Miedzyrzec Podlaski

The E20 Kunowice - Poznań - Konin - Kutno - Warsaw - Terespol main line is not only large city stations, but also small, charming stations. One of such facilities is the railway station in Międzyrzec Podlaski. After the modernization, it looks impressive. As part of the investment, the original window and door joinery was restored, and the facade of the building was renovated. The newly created underpass facilitates communication between parts of the city.

Nowy Sącz

One of the most beautiful railway stations in Poland, a spacious building that proves its rank Transversal Railway and its then important to transportation throughout Austrian partition. The railway line running through Nowy Sącz meanders through the hills and picturesque ditches. The high slopes of the track and the multitude of curves make it a demanding route for drivers. However, the views admired from behind the windows of the train compensate for any inconvenience. The station has undergone a complete renovation. Particularly noteworthy are the renovated floors and paintings depicting mountain landscapes. The architecture of the building refers to the Art Nouveau style, characteristic of Galicia.

Main Opole

The historic St. Opole is in the forefront of the most beautiful railway stations in Poland. During the recent modernization, the station has been restored to its former glory, a number of amenities for people with reduced mobility have been introduced, new shopping and dining outlets have been organized, and a station hostel has been opened in the right wing of the visible building. Inside, it is worth paying attention to the sandstone architectural details and the rosette windows of the main building. Wooden cash registers with nine coats of arms, tables and rails of cash registers and a floor with floral motifs, as well as paintings in the waiting room are also noteworthy. The high clock tower used to serve as a water tower for launching steam locomotives. An interesting fact is that the station building is located at the curves of the tracks, it is not situated at right angles, which is a rare solution in Poland.

Pabianice

Built in 1901–1903 runs through Pabianice Warsaw-Kalisz railway line. The modernized building of the railway station has retained its external shape and internal division of rooms, although some of them have been used for other purposes, incl. a tourist information point was launched.

The Narrow-Gauge Railway in Piaseczno

Railways are not only stations, but also technical facilities, without which it would not be possible to travel. Particularly noteworthy are objects on a "smaller scale", i.e. those intended for narrow-gauge railways. There used to be many narrow-gauge "queues" serving local communities throughout the country. One of them was the Piaseczyńsko-Grójecka Commuter Railway, which was part of the Warsaw Commuter Railways. They often reached the depths of Warsaw, often it was the only means of transport for individual towns. The monument commemorating the Warsaw narrow-gauge tracks is located in Sadyba. The photo below shows passenger carriages at the Piaseczno depot. Currently, they are used for tourist transport. "Narrow track is not a narrow fun", so it's definitely worth a look ...

Piotrkow Trybunalski

The first railway line to reach Piotrków Trybunalski was Warsaw-Vienna Railway (mid-nineteenth century). In 2010-2012, the facility was renovated. It is worth mentioning that the body of the building is original and has not undergone any modifications. Near the standard-gauge station there was also a narrow-gauge railway, which was the first in Poland to introduce the transport of standard-gauge wagons on transporters. Unfortunately, the narrow-gauge railway has been closed.

Płock

The railway station in Płock is not of a historic character, but its appearance after modernization has gained a completely new face. It is worth coming to Płock to see not only the station, but also the old town with tenement houses, boulevards on the Vistula River, or a truss railroad bridge over the Vistula River. There is a hotel on the first floor of the train station and each room has a view of the railway tracks.

Poznan

In Poznań, it is worth visiting the Memorial Chamber of the Regional Branch of PKP PLK S.A. at Aleja Niepodległości 8. Also noteworthy are the models in the Zespół Szkół Komunikacji im. Hipolit Cegielski at ul. Fredro. The model of Międzychód station attracts the greatest interest. On the station square you can admire the statue of St. Nicholas. After the modernization in 2014, in addition to the ticket office, waiting room and bistro, the seat of the Municipal Public Library was located on the premises of the station. There is also a tourist information desk. Rabka Zdrój has been known as a health resort for over a hundred years. Climatic values and healing waters are used to treat respiratory and circulatory system diseases, mainly in children.

The city is surrounded by the planes resulting from the reconstruction of defensive embankments - the second largest in Poland after the Krakow ones.

Rogów

Rogów Wąskotorowy is the starting station Rogowska Narrow Gauge Railway, one of the most interesting technical monuments in the Łódź Province. The railway was built in 1915 by the German army. Gradually, the network expanded to include other towns, reaching Biała Rawska. There are many interesting and unique carriages and locomotives at the station. Renovation works are carried out intensively on other vehicles.
