licata is a city in the province Agrigento on the Italian Island Sicily.

licata is located on the coast 47 kilometers southeast of Agrigento at an altitude of 8 m above sea level and with an area of 178.91 km². 38,130 people live there (30 Dec.2013) who mainly work in agriculture and industry. In addition, there are jobs in the service sector and in tourism. The city is crossed, as it were, by the river salso. The city has been paleolithic period inhabited. In 280 BC, the inhabitants of the destroyed city gela pulled here and became the city Phintiade founded. During the first Punic War between the Carthaginians and the Romans A battle took place here that is considered the first major naval battle in history. The Carthaginians gave way to the Romans who built a harbor in Licata. This made the city an important commercial center. In 1553 the city was passed Turkish pirates looted. Despite the plague, famine and Spanish oppression, recovery took place in the 17th and 18th centuries, when many prestigious religious and civil buildings were built. Another followed later ottoman threat, a revolt against the Bourbons and a American invasion on July 10, 1943.

There is no international airport in the province. You are dependent on one of the four airports in Sicily:

- Palermo (Falcone e Borsellino), Punta Raisi Airport-Cinis (35 km Palermo), ☎ 39 324 4190827 (mobile), toll free number: 800-541880. (IATA : PMO, ICAO : LICCJ). The train "Trinacria Express" operates between Punta Raisi Airport and the city Palermo. At Palermo Stazione Centrale station you can then train take to Licata station and change at Roccapalumbo-Alia and Caltanissetta. There are also direct buses from Palermo and the city of Licata Autolinee ATA, travel time: 02.45 hours, one way: €9.90, return: €16.80.
- Trapani (Vincenzo Florio Airport) (18 km Trapani), ☎ 39 0923 610111. (IATA : TPS, ICAO : LICK). AST provides a bus connection from Trapani Birgi Aeroporto to Mazara del Vallo, here you have to change to Castelvetrano (Salemi) to arrive in Licata via Sciacca and Agrigento.
By train
There is a limited rail connection from Syracuse and Catania through gela to Licata. From Agrigento is there a rail connection via canicatti. Information about train services in Sicily and from the Benelux at Trenitalia or in the Dutch language on [1].

By car
There are no highways running through the province. The main roads are generally easy to drive and traverse the entire province. The city is easily accessible from all corners of the world. From Palermo and Catania about the A19 via Caltanissetta, from Agrigento and Syracuse about the SS115 (Strada Sicula Occidentale). From canicatti about the SS 123.
Travel around
Licata is best viewed on foot. It is an old city with many places of interest. Some buildings date back to Roman times. The narrow streets make getting around by car or city bus virtually impossible, unless you want to go to one of the suburbs or to the beach. Recently, Licata has also built a bicycle path.
