The small town Ornbau is at the top Altmühl in the district Ansbach in Middle Franconia.

Ornbau was founded in the 9th century and originally belonged to the monastery Herrieden. From 1310 until the secularization it was an office of the bishopric Eichstatt. In 1317 Ornbau received town and fortification rights. In 1806 the new kingdom came into being Bavaria.

- The Catholic Parish church St. Jakobus d.Ä. with a choir and tower from the 15th century, the nave is new.
- The St. Jobst cemetery church dates back to the late 14th century. From 1732 it was redesigned in Baroque style. Various pieces of equipment from the second half of the 15th century have been preserved. In the cemetery there is a tomb erected in 1817 for the writer who died in the service of Ansbach Georges de Bièvre.
- The City fortifications from the late 15th century is largely preserved. These include the lower gate with an onion dome, three round towers and several bastions.
- The former Caste office from 1764 serves as a school. It is a well-proportioned plastered building with a mansard roof.
