The small town Herrieden is in the district Ansbach in Middle Franconia around 10 km southwest of Ansbach.

The one on the top Altmuehl Located Herrieden goes back to a monastery founded in the 8th century. It was first mentioned as a city in 1289, destroyed by Emperor Ludwig the Bavarian in 1315, but then rebuilt and re-fortified.

Herrieden belonged to the bishopric until 1792 Eichstatt and then came to Prussia, which in 1806 became the newly created kingdom Bavaria left. Extensive incorporations took place in the 1970s.

By train and bus

The railway line to Herrieden has long since been dismantled. The next train station is in Ansbach; it is every two hours from the intercity route Karlsruhe-Nuremberg served. Also from direction Wurzburg and augsburg/Munich there are connections in Ansbach.

Buses 803 and 804 run from Ansbach train station to Herrieden once or twice an hour. The journey takes 23 minutes. The most important stop is that 1 ZOB / Münchener Strasse, just a few steps from the old town.

In the street

From the federal motorway 6 Nuremberg-Heilbronn becomes Herrieden via the junction Symbol: AS 51 reached quickly.

By boat

No navigable waters lead to Herrieden. Water hiking on the Altmühl is only from Treuchtlingen possible.

By bicycle

Herrieden is on Altmühltal cycle path. Of Rothenburg ob der Tauber you drive 37 km down the Altmühl. In the opposite direction it is from Gunzenhausen 28 km, from Treuchtlingen 53 km and from Pappenheim 61 km.

From Ansbach, a good 11 km long, little frequented, but well signposted cycle path leads to Herrieden. Mostly you ride on roads with little traffic, sometimes on separate bike paths (mostly paved, shorter sections of gravel or dirt road). A small ridge with a height of 90 meters has to be overcome. Halfway through the route, it goes comfortably downhill.

On foot

Herrieden lies on the white-yellow-white marked Rangau-Randweg (Obernzenn – Oberdachstetten – Colmberg – Leutershausen – Herrieden – Ornbau).
