St. Leon-Rot is a municipality in the Rhein-Neckar-Kreis, it is located in the Baden Rhine Plain.

background

The community of St. Leon-Rot was created in 1974 through the merger of the formerly independent communities of St. Leon and Rot. Both communities belonged to the Speyer Monastery for a long time until they came to the Grand Duke of Baden in 1803.

The places were dominated by agriculture for a long time, but good yields were seldom achieved on the sandy soils of the Rhine plain. Around 1870 the cultivation of tobacco brought a certain prosperity, today the asparagus fields are an important source of income.

Although the community has developed quite well since it was unified, the two districts are still easy to distinguish: St. Leon is west of the motorway A5, Red is east of it. Not least because of the convenient location on the motorway, a number of companies have settled, especially in the business park in the south of the town.

Neighboring communities in the Rhein-Neckar district are Reilingen, Walldorf, Wiesloch, Malsch and Rauenberg, in the south are the municipalities Waghausel, Kronau and Bad Schönborn, they belong to the district of Karlsruhe.
