Ortisei in Val Gardena (Ladin Urtijëi, Italian Ortisei) is a small market town in Val Gardena in Italy, more precisely in South-Tirol, Ladin South-Tirol; Italian Alto Adige, Sudtirolo. Along with St. Christina and Selva Ortisei is one of the three municipalities in Val Gardena in which, in addition to German and Italian, Ladin is the official language.
For several decades, tourism has been the main industry in the market town, which is one of the most famous winter sports locations in the Alps counts. Ortisei in Val Gardena has been heavily influenced by tourism since 1850. The Ortisei beautification association was founded as early as 1885, as was the Val Gardena section of the German and Austrian Alpine Association based in the Hotel Adler, which is still in existence today. At the turn of the century, skiing began in Ortisei, and a curling club was established next to an ice rink. In 1935 the first cable car was opened in Val Gardena from Ortisei to the Seiser Alm solemnly inaugurated. The first ski school and the first mountain guides followed. From 1950 the chair lift came Raschötzer Bahn, the association of mountain guides and mountain rescuers Catores, the first public outdoor pool, a double cable car to the Secedaalm and an artificial ice rink. Villa Venezia
