Visegrád (German Plintenburg). The city is located in the county pest north about 40 kilometers from Budapest away. Visegrád and its surroundings were already settled in the Bronze Age, and the area was considered militarily important in Roman times. Between the 10th and 17th centuries, the village was attacked by Turks and Mongols. Today the popular Visegrád belongs to the Szentendre small area.
getting there
Visegrád can be reached from Germany:
- Federal motorway 3 above Passau up to the federal border Austria at Schärding/Suben, continue on the Innkreis Autobahn A8 and the West Highway A1 over Vienna as well as the East highway up to the federal border Hungary at Hegyeshalom/Nickelsdorf. Further direction Budapest on the M1 motorway, change direction Komárom and on to Visegrád.
- From direction Dresden on the Federal motorway 17 and the Czech Dálnice 8 until after Prague/Czech Republic. Continue on the highway Dálnice 1 above Brno and on the Dálnice 2 to Bratislava or Nitra/Slovakia, then direction Komárom/Hungary and Visegrád.
By train or plane is first Budapest the goal is to change from there to onward train or bus connections to Visegrád. A rental car from Budapest can also be used. If you would like to travel by boat on the Danube, you can also do so, there are boat connections between Budapest, Szentendre, Visegrád, Esztergom and Százhalombatta.

- The Visegrád Castle, originally built around the year 1250, for a long time militarily significant; Once upon a time, Hungary's Holy Crown of St. Stephen was kept here. The first restorations of the castle took place around 1870 and will continue into the 21st century. The castle offers a variety of attractions, visitors can visit exhibitions about the history of the castle or learn something about how fishing and hunting used to be. The Panoptikum is also worth experiencing and, last but not least, there is a wonderful view of the Danube Bend.

- The Sibrik hill, here the traces of the Roman legionaries can be seen who crossed the border around 320 AD Pannonia protected. Around the year 1000-1010 the first church building in Visegrád was built in the immediate vicinity, which was later destroyed by Tatar attacks. In 1970 the remains of the building were rediscovered through excavations.
