Map of Bad Wiessee

background

Bad Wiessee is located on the west bank of the Tegernsee and is laid out with loosely built-up areas in the rather wide shoreline up to the mountain forest. The place Bad Wiessee consists of the former town center Alt-Wiessee in the south and the subsequent spa center to the north.

The other districts of Bad Wiessee are in the south Abwinkl, Buch, Bauer in der Au (hamlet, mountain inn) and in the north of the health resort Grundner, Holz, Rohbogen (with the golf course) and Winner (casino);

The foundation of the place is classified at around 850, the first mention of the place then takes place in the year 1017 as "Wesses". The place then belongs to the Tegernsee Monastery, which operates glass painting workshops here.

The first oil discoveries in the vicinity of the Tegernsee go back to the year 1441. In 1904 the Dutch Adrian Stoop carried out large-scale test drilling for oil, but the quantities produced were not profitable. The discovery of the Wiesse thermal spring in 1909 produced iodine sulfur water from a depth of 676 meters at 19 ° C with a yield of 1600 liters per minute. Appraised as a healing spring in 1913, a bathhouse was then built while the search for oil was stopped at the same time. Wiessee has officially been using the title "Bad" since 1922.

The Bad Wiesseer iodosulfur springs are the Wilhelmina and Adrianus springs, indication are diseases of the eyes and the respiratory tract, cardiovascular system with respiratory tract and inflammatory processes such as rheumatic diseases. Iodide baths are used to support the treatment of high blood pressure.
