background
history
- In year 1512 the confederates of the XII places had conquered large parts of the Locarno region,[1] which had belonged to the Duchy of Milan for a long time before being taken over by the troops of the French King Louis XII. had been occupied.
- In June 1513 the French, after months of siege, on the part of the Confederates of the XII, and especially after the battle, had to help Novara[2] also left the castle of the Visconti in Locarno to the confederates. After the military conquest by the confederates of the XII places, the adhesion of the place Locarno to the common rulership was accomplished[3], which from then on officially bore the name Luggarus until 1798, and with its associated previously conquered territory formed the new Ennetberg Bailiwick Luggarus.[4] This area was the predecessor of today's Locarno (Locarnese) district, which was first born in 1803.
- in the 1530s Years ago, the castle of Luggarus was razed, only the central building complex remained as the seat of the bailiff (ital.: Balivo, or more popularly: Landfogto).
- In the years 1576 to 1577 the plague raged which decimated the population of the region. There is no information about the number of deaths in the entire area of the Luggarus Bailiwick. But in the main town In Luggarus there were only 700 left of 4,800 souls wrote the Cardinal and Archbishop of Milan Charles Borromeo.
- In the XVI. In the 19th century, during the Counter-Reformation, many families who had joined the Reformed faith were banished from what is now Locarno. The end of the century was marked by disasters and epidemics of plague.
- In the year 1798 ended the era of the Ennetbergische Vogteien, which had lasted since 1513[4] and those of Luggarus, when the sovereign federal cantons granted the previously conquered and until then administered areas (today's Ticino) more autonomy and the Helvetic cantons Bellinzona and Lugano were founded. The area of the Vogtei Luggarus and the name of the main town were named back in Locarno and became part of the new Helvetic Canton of Lugano.
- In year 1803 became Locarno, with the capital of the same name Locarno, to a district of the new canton of Ticino, which was mediated by Napoleon[5] arose from the Helvetic cantons of Bellinzona and Lugano, which had existed since 1798.
- In year 2013 500 years ago Locarno's castle and dominion passed into the possession of the Confederates. But it is not celebrated because From a patriotic point of view, the year 1513 is difficult to sell in Ticino, because the Locarnese region was conquered by war by the Confederates of the timesays Locarno's city archivist Rodolfo Huber.[6]
natural geographical conditions
The highest point in the district is the Pizzo Barone at 2,864 m (9,396 feet) in height. Other mountain peaks are the Madone Grosso with 2,741 m (8993 feet), the Monte Zucchero (in German Sugar Hill) with 2,735 m (8973 feet), the Pizzo del Mezzodì (in German midday summit) with 2708 m (8885 feet), and the Pizzo Medaro at 2551 m (8369 feet). The lowest point is the bank of the Lake Maggiore and, remarkably, is also the lowest point in Switzerland.
All of the rivers in the district flow into the Lake Maggiore. The most important are the Ticino, Maggia, Verzasca, Vigezzo and Giona.
The district only includes the lower one Ticino East side of Valle Vigezzo and its so-called Hundred Side Valleys (ital.: Centovalli), that Onsernone Valley, the Verzasca valley, the top of the Veddasca valley, as well as the upper northeast section of the Lake Maggiore and the Brissago Islands.
language
Colloquial language is predominantly that Italian language[7] with a Galloital pronunciation typical of north-east Italy[8] and the Ticino dialect common in Sopraceneri. This is a regional expression of the West Lombard dialect Laghée [9] which varies depending on the environment, with considerable regional linguistic contribution. Between valley and valley and sometimes even places there are therefore different nuances and vocabulary that have developed over the past centuries, especially in the most isolated valleys. German is widely used as the first foreign language, especially in the larger towns in the district.

By bus
In the street
- When arriving via Bellinzona: On the
you cross the district border before Contone on the predominantly agricultural and unfortunately increasingly also industrially used Magadino plain,
- where you can turn left after Quartino towards Magadino for destinations on the south side of the Lake Maggiore,
- or on the national road N13 that crosses the river Ticino with a right curve to the bridge and on the one on the left Locarno Airport continues past.
- If you want to go to the Verzasca Valley, do NOT turn left onto the expressway to Locarno but continue straight ahead and only turn left at the end of the road in Riazzino, then drive through Gordola where a road in the center turns right up into the Verzasca Valley.
- If you go to Locarno or to the north side of the lake or to the Maggia Valley, Onsernone Valley or ins Melezzatal just before Riazzino, take a left turn onto the expressway towards Locarno. After Tenero Mappo this runs in the tunnel under Minusio, Muralto and the city Locarno until its end in the Morettina district of Locarno there is an exit to the city of Locarno which leads to the traffic circle of the Piazza Castello of Locarno.
- For destinations above Locarno you also take this exit.
- For goals in Maggia Valley, Onsernone Valley or Melezzatal stay on the N13 and cross the Maggia. Keep to the right as you leave the expressway at the next exit towards Centovalli, Onsernone, Vallemaggia, Losone. Once at the top, drive straight ahead and follow the signs. There are also two petrol stations there (BP, Shell).
- For the destination Ascona, take the next exit. After Ronco sopra Ascona via the upper Panorama Street (from Monte Verità, Arcegno), take the exit to Ascona and then turn right towards Losone.
- For destinations on the north side of the lake basin of the Lake Maggiore to the west of Locarno you simply drive straight ahead and through another shorter tunnel at the end of which the expressway ends at the lake and is taken as the N13 to the border.
