Dithmarschen is known nationwide as the "Kohlland". During the harvest season, the Dithmarscher Kohltage instead of. Almost every restaurant serves its own creation.
Typical creations on the coast are (among other things) kale with pork (Kassler), fish and lamb, smoked bacon with pears and beans, Mehlbüddel flour bags), buttermilk soup (Low German Bodermelksupp un lump) and elderberry soup (Lilacberry soup).
Other dishes are Swattsuer (= blood soup; is no longer prepared today), kale soup or bread pudding and crabs (North Sea shrimp). Of course, a lot of fish is also eaten.
Typical drinks e.g. B. from North Frisia are the Pharisee (coffee with rum and cream), Tote Aunt (hot chocolate with rum and cream) and egg grog.
