background
Alpkönig
The idiosyncratic name goes back to the AlpköningCarl Brainbone, of 1807 in Unterwilhams was born and in 1871 Weitnau died. Carl Hirnbein first worked in his parents' farm, then as a cheese seller. Around 1830 he sent some young people to Belgium to learn how to make cheese there. Finally he got into the production of Romadur and Limburger, in addition he concluded milk supply contracts with the farmers in the area. In the period that followed, dairies were built on the mountain pastures. While the farmers around the Hauchenberg used to have a sideline in the cultivation of blue flowering flax and linen weaving, now the focus was on alpine farming with green pastures and cheese production. The phrase arose From the blue to the green Allgäu. The Alpkönig was also one of the pioneers of tourism in the Allgäu. Under his direction, the first hotel in the Allgäu Alps was built on the Grünten, and it still exists today as that Grüntenhaus. The first printed tourist brochure can also be traced back to Carl Hinrbein.
In the villages of his homeland, a number of streets and memorials commemorate the alpine king:
