Selm is a city in Germany, in North Rhine-Westphalia, in Ruhr area in the district of Unna. It is located in northern Westphalia in the administrative district of Arnsberg on the border of the Münsterland to Westphalian Bay. Selm has been part of the Unna district since 1975.

After the regional reform in 1975, Selm and Bork, to which Cappenberg also belonged, were merged to form the municipality of Selm. In 1977 the municipality of Selm received city rights. Since then it has been a town with the districts of Selm, Bork and Cappenberg. The name appears as "Seliheim" as early as 858 and has developed into "Selm" in terms of linguistic history.

The nearest airports are in Dortmund (30km), Münster / Osnabrück (65km) and Dusseldorf (85km).

  • Coming from the direction of Münster the A1 Bremen-Cologne at the Symbol: AS 79 Leave Ascheberg / Selm and the B58 follow in the direction of Selm.
  • Coming from Oberhausen the A2 Oberhausen-Hanover at the Symbol: AS 13 Leave Lünen / Selm and take the motorway-like one B236 through Lünen then on to Selm and Olfen.
  • Coming from the Unna direction A1 Cologne-Bremen on the Symbol: AS 80 Leave Hamm-Bockum / Werne / Selm and rely on the L 518 / Follow Nordlippestraße in the direction of Selm.
  • Selm can be easily reached from Senden, Olfen, Haltern am See, Lüdinghauen and Werne via well-developed roads.

By bicycle

The Roman Lippe Route, comes from Olfen via Vinnum to Selm-Bork and continues to follow Luenen.

On foot

The long-distance hiking trail Arnhem - Lippstadt X1 leads through Selm.
