The moor is about 1.5 km north of Silberborn. An approximately 1 km long wooden walkway leads through the area, which is well worth seeing. Large parts of the moor have just been renatured. From the hiking car park at the northern exit of Silberborn, a 3.5 km long circular hiking trail opens up the moor. Don't be put off by the first monotonous kilometer on the gravel road! The path becomes even more attractive in its course (see section "Hikes & walks"). At the end of May 2011 there was a food truck in the parking lot on public holidays. Location of the parking lot: 51 ° 46 ′ 15 ″ N.9 ° 33 '8 "E. The moor is of course a little more crowded on beautiful Sundays and public holidays in the summer months. If you want less business, you should come on weekdays.

Hikes & walks

  • In the middle of the village is the start of the "Liebesbankweg" - a path that leads to several beautiful spots in the Solling. Artistically designed benches stand at intervals along the path. Small circular hike to the Mecklenbruch moor

Area map of Silberborn and Neuhaus: The Circular hike to the Mecklenbruch high moor is drawn. Printing information: Load the graphic in the highest resolution in the browser and only then go to print there. Set A4 portrait format for printing beforehand.

Starting from the park at the northern entrance to the village 51 ° 46 ′ 45 ″ N.9 ° 33 '22 "E it goes first along a disdainful gravel road. Don't be put off by this first, monotonous kilometer! The path becomes even more attractive as it goes. In principle, the route is suitable for prams, but the footbridge has a bit of coarse wood and the path is a bit bumpy in parts.

  • Soon the stable building of the appears on the left Red cattle on. This endangered breed of domestic cattle was reintroduced here as part of a nature conservation project (information board about the project is available on site). According to Wikipedia, the robust, Rote Höhenvieh is a three-purpose breed: milk and meat production and use as a workhorse. This breed, also called Celtic cattle, was kept in Germany mainly in the low mountain ranges. After the breed was almost extinct, there are again 600 animals across Germany through breeding projects with which the genes of this cattle species can be preserved. According to the Project page For breeding here in Silberborn, the animals are marketed locally and regionally over short distances. A buyer directly in Silberborn is according to the project page (in 04-2012) z. B. that Landhaus Sollingshöhe.
  • To the right of the road you will soon find an older beech tree with a shady bench. Soon you will reach the entrance to the Moorsteg and this is where the interesting part of the path begins. At the beginning of the jetty, a board provides information on the history of the moor.
  • The highlight of the hike is definitely the observation tower on the moor pond. In 1981 rewetting measures were started here with the construction of 2 small dams. Today, after around 30 years, this small moor area with the two ponds looks quite natural again. Another major moor renaturation was completed in 2010. I.a. Various smaller dams made of natural material were built so that the area becomes wet again. Furthermore, the unsuitable spruce stands in the bog area were removed over a large area. The spruce trees were not only foreign to their location, they also drew a great deal of water from the moor.
  • In the further course of the footbridge you can now find several “tree stump wood sculptures” that are well worth seeing.
  • A few hundred meters after the end of the jetty you can take a break on the right at a cozy rest area. In May 2011 there was a quite new covered bench / group of tables in addition to benches. Interesting detail: the table wobbled quite a lot. It is not known whether this is a built-in "fun function" or a construction weakness. There is also a pasture with ponies (according to the signs, a special species that is no longer known) and a pasture with "aurochs".
  • If you want, you can now take a detour to the “Treerock” high ropes course and test your climbing skills and a head for heights there during opening hours.
  • For the circular hike, however, keep left twice to return to the parking lot. The route crosses the stream and leads through the pasture area of the Rote Höhenviehs, slightly uphill, back to the road. If you want, you can relax briefly under the already mentioned beech before returning to the parking lot and enjoy the good air of the Hochsolling.
