What see

Church of San Pietro in Vincoli
  • 1 Church of San Pietro in Vincoli. It has a strong Romanesque style and it is assumed that it was built around the 11th century, even if there are no documents in this regard that certify its exact construction.
The primitive nucleus, much smaller than the current structure, was to be used as a burial place for the inhabitants of the area, and had a different orientation that turned the facade towards the east, towards the lake from which it is a few tens of meters away.
The location was far from the inhabited center, in an isolated area, a peculiarity that was lost after the construction of the State Road 42 which passes a few meters from the building.
In the period between the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries the church was subjected to renovations that significantly modified the structure without compromising the characteristic features of the Romanesque style. The orientation was changed, moving the entrance to the south, adding a nave in which the pre-existing apse was incorporated and the delimitation to the north was eliminated in order to favor the elongation of the structure in that direction.
All this however allowed to keep the sober and modest shapes, simple and smooth, characterized by a very light color, with very small dimensions.
A few decades later (early 16th century) the bell tower was also erected, which has managed to maintain the elements that characterize the rest of the complex.
Inside it must have been equipped with numerous sixteenth-century frescoes, some of which have been lost: a Madonna with child and twelve paintings remain, in the presbytery area, depicting six sibyls (Chimica, Delfica, Ellespontica, Eritrea, Persica and Samia) alternating with six prophets (Habakkuk, David, Ezekiel, Jeremiah, Isaiah and Moses), attributable to the school of Lorenzo Lotto, a Venetian master who painted remarkable works in the nearby town of Trescore Balneario.
Recently included in a project aimed at enhancing it, the church has been declared a national monument. Church of San Pietro in Vincoli (Spinone al Lago) on Wikipedia church of San Pietro in Vincoli (Q3671802) on Wikidata
  • House of the Suardi Counts. The former house of the Suardi counts, built in the 15th century in the town on an ancient pre-existing convent, preserves traces of frescoes in the internal courtyard.
  • Villa Valzelli and ex-villa Patirani. Dating back to the 17th and 18th centuries respectively are Villa Valzelli and the former Villa Patirani. Of the latter, only the memory and a part of the then extensive park that reached the lake remain.

  • Tuf Valley. Not far from the built-up area, this valley is rich in sulphurous water springs very famous for its therapeutic qualities, so much so that since the end of the nineteenth century the Municipality reserved to the population "the right to transport water to the sick following a doctor's prescription and drink it at the Fonte Spinosa for free ".
As the tourist sign on the spot states: “The water of the Tuf Valley descends from a spur of tuff that can be recognized on sight. The once precipitous waters flowed into the Cherio river downstream of the lake, creating a swamp that was reclaimed by the Austrians around 1835. In the valley, in addition to the tuff, there are limestone slabs and black marls. The numerous springs are captured for bottling and for public use. "
  • Fontanino degli Alpini Park. Since 1982 around the Fonte Spinosa has been equipped by the Municipality, with the help of the Alpini and volunteers, the Fontanino degli Alpini Park where, in addition to comfortably drawing water from the Spinosa Spring, you can stop or walk freely in the thicket vegetation.
