Southern Thailand is a tourist region corresponding to the northern part of the Malacca peninsula in the hands of the Thailand.
To know
Southern Thailand includes some of the most famous seaside resorts in all of Southeast Asia, scattered both on the western side of the Andaman Sea and on the eastern side of the Gulf of Thailand south of Chumphon.
Geographical notes
It borders to the north with the Central Thailand, to the northwest with the Burma (Division of Tenasserim) and to the south with the Malaysia. It lies between the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Siam.
Background
The centers on the western side were devastated by the 2004 Christmas Tsunami.

- 2 Krabi (กระบี่) - Home base for a lot of beaches and islands.
- 3 Patong (ป่า ตอง) - One of the great fun cities ofAsia on the island of Phuket.
- 4 Phuket (ภูเก็ต) - Administrative center of the renowned island.
- 5 Surat Thani (สุราษฎร์ธานี) - Main city of the Srivijaya Empire, gateway to the Samui archipelago.
Andaman Sea
- Ranong (ระนอง) - Located on the estuary of the Kraburi River (Pak Chan) which marks the border with Burma, Ranong has not yet developed its tourist potential, also hampered by its reputation as the wettest city in the country Thailand. The main attraction of the province of which it is the capital is the Laem Son national park which also covers the overlooking stretch of sea dotted with islets.

Gulf of Thailand
- 6 Chumphon (ชุมพร) - Transport hub, Chumphon is only a stop for those travelers who have decided to reach the south of Thailand by train or bus from Bangkok. From Chumphon it is in fact possible to continue on the main road up to Surat Thani, further south or detour to Ranong, on the Andaman Sea and from there continue to Phuket and the other localities of the Phang Nga Bay. From its port you can also embark for Ko Tao in one of the four daily ferries.
- 7 Nakhon Si Thammarat (นครศรีธรรมราช) - Capital of the province of the same name, Nakhon Si Thammarat, historically known as Ligor, boasts in its surroundings white sandy beaches off the beaten track by mass tourism.
- 8 Songkhla (สงขลา) - Popular seaside resort with travelers Malaysians and of Singapore. Further south of Nakhon Si Thammarat, Songkhla is the capital of the homonymous province inhabited mainly by Muslim populations who have shown intolerance towards the central government, which is to the detriment of the tourist flow.

- Similan Islands (หมู่ เกาะ สิ มิ ลัน) - Group of nine islands south of the previous ones and like those set up as a marine park.
- Surin Islands (หมู่ เกาะ สุรินทร์) - Five islands off the coast south of Ranong. They constitute a marine park and are renowned for their coral-rich seabed.
- Gulf islands — Ko Samui is Ko Pha Ngan can be reached by ferry from Surat Thani. In general, Southern Thai food is renowned for being very spicy. Much of the cuisine has its origins in Malaysian, Indonesian and Indian dishes. Southern favorites include Indian-style Muslim curry (massaman), rice noodles in curry fish sauce (Khanom Jeen) is birayani of chicken.
Seafood dishes are obviously the ones that are the most popular among tourists visiting a coastal province like Krabi. In addition, wing shells (หอย ชัก ตีน) are part of the famous cuisine of Krabi.
