Wiesenthau is a city in the district Forchheim in the Bavarian administrative district Upper Franconia in the Southern Franconian Switzerland.

There are only two districts: Schlaifhausen and Wiesenthau
Wiesenthau lies at the foot of the Honorary citizen (wikipedia) , in traditional language Walberla called, one of the sacred mountains of the Franks. This is a mountain of witnesses with a double knoll. The 514 high Walberla is the north crest with the chapel and the 532 m high, 750 meters away Rodenstein is the southern tip. A place of cult of the Celts can be proven on the mountain, a Germanic sanctuary and also as a Christian place.

On the highway Take one of the two Forchheim exits, continue on federal road 470 and then turn right to Wiesenthau.

The next train station is in Kirchehrenbach is on the railway line Forchheim – Ebermannstadt.

Tourist Attractions
- Wiesenthau Castle was first mentioned in a document in 1379 as Wiesenthau Castle. It was destroyed to the ground twice in 1430 in the Hussite War and in 1525 in the Peasants' War and then rebuilt. From the 14th to the 19th century it was owned by the Freiherr von und zu Wiesenthau until the family died out around 1814. The castle has been privately owned since the early 1970s and is now used as a hotel and restaurant.
- The Gatehouse sits directly on the castle wall, it probably dates from the 16th century and was renewed in 1788.

- The Church in Schlaifhausen was inaugurated on August 18, 1949, it was built from stones from the nearby quarry.

- The local fountains are decorated before Easter.
- The first Sunday in May takes place on the Ehrenbürg Walberla Festival instead of. It is considered the oldest spring festival in Germany and is a patronage festival in honor of the saints Walburga. Its roots are said to come from an old pagan festival of sacrifice in honor of Wodan; pilgrimages to the festival have been known since the 9th century. The festival begins on Friday at 5 p.m. with the erection of the maypole, and the beer tapping starts at around 6 p.m. The festival is on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m., on Sunday from 9 a.m. there is a service in the Walburgis Chapel.

The complete Franconian Switzerland is a wonderful excursion area with many possibilities. If you are drawn to the city, you are in a good half an hour's drive Nuremberg or in Bamberg. The old royal city Forchheim is only a quarter of an hour away.
