5 21 December 2007: opening of land and sea borders; March 30, 2008 extension to airports
6 12 December 2008: opening of the land borders; March 29, 2009 extension to airports
How to get
By plane
There are numerous airports in the area connected with cities outside the same, so just take a direct flight to the destination of interest to get there. However, the nations of Andorra, Vatican CITY, Principality of Monaco, San Marino is Liechtenstein. All of these nations, however, have at least one heliport.
By car
Entry by car is possible from the external borders, in particular from Ukraine is Russia (the enclave of Kaliningrad is entirely surrounded by Schengen states), as well as by Romania is Bulgaria (EU member states but not yet Schengen members).
Some routes allow direct connection, such as the hydrofoils from Morocco to Spain and ships from Israel to Greece and from Tunisia to Sicily.
On the train
There are numerous trains that allow you to arrive, as well as routes Bucharest - Budapest and the trains of the Russian state railways that from Moscow, through the Belarus, lead up to Paris is Nice.
By bus
There are several buses, such as those that arrive from Italy to Romania and vice versa.
How to get around
By plane
Numerous are the planes that allow to move both within the states and between them; economic flights, in particular, have dramatically increased the possibilities of movement, also allowing connections with minor destinations.
By car
It is not difficult to get around by car, but if you are in the larger states it must be taken into account that it will take even more than 12 hours to cross them from one extreme to the other (an example is the crossing of theItaly from Calabria to the border areas to the north) and in this case the hypothesis of using another faster means, such as a plane or a high-speed train, is not a strange hypothesis.
In addition to cruise ships, which by their nature are not services that allow you to get on at one point and get off at another, there are several naval routes that allow movements both within a single state (for example, ships between Palermo is Genoa or Cagliari and those from Messina to Salerno) and between different states (for example the routes between Genoa is Barcelona or between Bari and the Greece).
On the train
National trains are omnipresent, except a Malta and in Iceland, completely devoid of railway networks, also possible international connections between large cities or between a large city and a border station (in particular between France is Spain, which on local trains use different gauges).
By bus
There are numerous national and international buses, especially after the advent of Flixbus which has brought down prices and not a little (for connections between long distances, what is written in the section applies By car, although bus connections often save money).
