Fukuoka(Japanese: 福岡 県, Fukuoka-ken) is a prefecture in the region Kyushu, Japan. It is located in the northeast of the island and with 5 million inhabitants is the most densely populated prefecture of Kyushu.
background
The coast of the prefecture is only around 200 km from mainland Korea. That is why there have always been contacts with the neighbors on the other side of Koreastrasse throughout history. This is where tea came to Japan, and Buddhism also found its entrance here. The invasion attempts of the Mongols, whose fleet was destroyed by a typhoon, were called less peaceful kamikaze(Holy wind). The Japanese also provided shelter Toyotomi Hideyoshi paid an unfriendly visit to their Korean neighbors in the 17th century.
Regions
The north of Fukuoka Prefecture is on the coast of Tsushima Strait, and the west is adjacent to the prefecture saga. Lying in the south Kumamoto and Ōita, to the east separate Kammon Strait and Seto Inland Sea from the prefecture Yamaguchi and the island Honshu.
