Osterode am Harz is a city in Lower Saxony at the southwestern foot of the resin.

Osterode on the southwestern edge of the Harz has a very well-preserved half-timbered old town in the middle of an also largely preserved city wall.

By train

Osterode is on the regional train line from Braunschweig above Salzgitter and Seesen to Herzberg, and has two stops: Osterode am Harz Mitte (near the town hall / old town) and Osterode am Harz Leege (eastern outskirts). In Herzberg there is a connection to the trains to Nordhausen and Göttingen, which means that almost all German metropolises can be reached in 1–3 changes.

In the street

Coming from the south you leave it A7 at the junction Goettingen-North (72) and follows the B27 Direction Braunlage for about 38 km to Herzberg. There you turn onto the B243 in the direction of Osterode and follow it for about 8-12 km to the junctions Osterode-Leege, Osterode-Süd, Osterode-Mitte (center) and Osterode-Nord.

Coming from the north you leave it A7 at the junction Seesen (67) and follows the B243 Direction Osterode for about 20-23 km to the junction of Osterode-Nord, -Mitte and -Süd.

From the west through Northeim coming one follows the B241 to Osterode.

Coming from the east you leave it A38 at the junction Major changes (9) and follows the B243 Direction Osterode for about 43–47 km to the connection points Osterode-Leege, -Süd, -Mitte and -Nord.

From the high Harz, more precisely from Braunlage Coming, you either drive on the well-developed B27 to the AS Bad Lauterberg-West the B243 (continue like from the east) or via the B242 (Harzhochstrasse) for about 25 km Clausthal and turn there on the B241 Direction Osterode and follow this for about 9 (freedom) to 13 km (AS Osterode-Mitte).

The German half-timbered street leads through the place.

By bicycle

The Weser-Harz-Heide-Radweg and the Harz circuit lead through Osterode. GPS tracks for both routes can be found in the Bike tour wiki.

On foot

The Karst hiking trail south Harz runs on various routes along the southern edge of the Harz from Osterode Herzberg am Harz and Bad Sachsa through the district Nordhausen until after Sangerhausen.

  • A day hike is the 11 km long way (one way) to Hanskühnenburg on the ridge To the field in the Harz National Park. In addition, there are other, shorter routes to the Hanskühnenburg, for which you first have to go to the starting point by bus or car, e.g. to Lonau at Herzberg am Harz or after Sieber.
