Nationwide cycle routes in the Netherlands - Landesweite Radrouten in den Niederlanden

Bicycle parking garage in Amsterdam

Derived from the German long-distance cycle paths, the first long-distance cycle path in the Netherlands, the Promenade, was established in the Netherlands in 1972 Gooi - Developed Kennemerland. Since the beginning of the eighties the association Het Groene Fietsje (The green bicycle) built a network. From 1987 onwards, this association, together with the ANWB tourist association, the Fiets! Foundation, the enfb bicycle association and NIVON, the friends of nature, contacted a publisher who has since published the national bicycle network. Since 1990 this foundation has provided around 300 of the 6000 km with signposts every year.

Some of the routes have sections in Flanders and even in France, e.g. the LF route 1.
