The Franconian Forest town Ludwigsstadt is located in the far north of the state of Bavaria, north of the Frankenwald railway ramp and the Rennsteig. The Loquitz, a tributary of the Saale, flows through Ludwigsstadt.

By train
The 1 Ludwigsstadt train station can be reached via the Frankenwaldbahn from Saalfeld to Lichtenfels. A train runs about every hour, alternating with the regional train Naumburg–Saalfeld–Lichtenfels or the regional express Saalfeld–Lichtenfels–court. The latter changes direction in Lichtenfels. The next ICE stop is in Saalfeld.

Via the federal highway 85, which in Kronach continues with the B 173 to Lichtenfels.

The Slate Museum in Ludwigsstadt makes it clear that it is not far into the Thuringian Slate Mountains is.

That lies over the city Trogenbach Viaductthat carries the railway line. The bridge dates from 1883/85 and is 200 m long and 26 m high. The middle section is held by three iron lattice girders, a total of 96 m long.
