The Franconian Forest town Ludwigsstadt is located in the far north of the state of Bavaria, north of the Frankenwald railway ramp and the Rennsteig. The Loquitz, a tributary of the Saale, flows through Ludwigsstadt.

By train

The 1 Ludwigsstadt train station can be reached via the Frankenwaldbahn from Saalfeld to Lichtenfels. A train runs about every hour, alternating with the regional train NaumburgSaalfeldLichtenfels or the regional express SaalfeldLichtenfelscourt. The latter changes direction in Lichtenfels. The next ICE stop is in Saalfeld.
