The famous spa town Marienbad (Czech: Marianske Lazne, spoken: mariaanskää laasnʲä, IPA: [ˈmarɪaːnskɛː ˈlaːzɲɛ]) impresses with the Singing Fountain and the cast iron colonnade.

There are more than 100 springs in the area around Marienbad and around 40 springs in the city itself. It is a balneological rarity that so different sources spring from so close together. The temperatures of all springs are between 7 ° C and 10 ° C, they are cold sourlings.

By train

Marienbad is on the railway line Cheb–Pilsen, the train station is about 2 km from the city center. Express trains on the Prague – Pilsen – Cheb line and regional trains from Cheb stop every two hours, twice a day SuperCity from Bohumin via Prague and Pilsen. The journey from Cheb takes 20–30 minutes (depending on the type of train), from Pilsen around an hour, from Prague 2:15 to 2:55 hours.

One change in Cheb takes you from Nuremberg (2:15 hours), Marktredwitz (50 minutes) or Hof (1:45 hours) to Marienbad. From Plauen (Vogtland) you can get to Marienbad via Cheb in around two hours.

In the street

Marienbad is located on road no. 12 (Cheb – Pilsen).

On the German side, the fastest route is via the autobahn A93 (Hof – Regensburg), which you can find at the junction Mitterteich-Süd leaves, from there it is another 50 km to Marienbad. Coming from southern Germany, you can do that too A6 (Nürnberg – Pilsen), which on the Czech side as D5 continues that one at the junction Cheb / Mariánské Lázně / Planá / Bor leaves, then there are 28 km on the road to Marienbad. From the eastern part of Germany you drive from Plauen on the B92 via Bad Brambach and Cheb to Marienbad.

Colonnades and spring pavilions

  • The is in the spa district of Marienbad Spa Colonnade (Hlavni kolonada), a neo-baroque building over 100 meters long that has been declared a technical monument. It consists of a cast iron construction from 1890 and was restored from 1973 to 1981 due to severe corrosion. Magnificent ceiling and wall frescoes and wall reliefs can be seen in the walkway, and there are also shops, a pharmacy, souvenir shops and a café. Until before the Second World War, European celebrities strolled in this colonnade and drank water. On the west side of the hall there is a pavilion in which several spring water tapped via pipes can be tasted and bottled free of charge.
