background

The spa industry looks back on a long tradition in western Bohemia. The healing effects of the so-called Eger water from today's area around Franzensbad were known as early as the 12th century. The use of the hot springs in Karlovy Vary began in the 14th century, during the reign of King Charles IV.

The heyday of the West Bohemian spas was recorded in the 18th century and especially in the 19th century. At that time, many famous personalities of the European nobility, politics, science and culture were in West Bohemia for a cure.

Around 230 springs have been developed to date in the area of the three baths. The medicinal water springs from underground lakes in the Slavkovsky les mountain region. These hot springs, which in Karlovy Vary reach a temperature of 41 ° C to 72 ° C, come from a depth of 2,000 meters and more. The cold springs in Marianske Lazne from depths of about 100 meters.

The Kaiserwald (Slavkovský les) is a mountain range in the triangle Karlsbad, Marienbad and Franzensbad.
