Neustadt an der Weinstrasse is on the eastern edge of the Palatinate Forest and is one of the best-known and, with around 2,000 hectares of vineyards, measured by the area under cultivation, also one of the largest wine-growing locations in Germany.

Neustadt is located on the eponymous German Wine Route
The Local foundation was probably made around 1220 by the Rhineland Count Palatine Otto von Wittelsbach; the city rights are secured from 1275 by the official city elevation, various city privileges were probably already exercised before. The district of Winzingen is older in the inner city area, it has probably been around since the eighth century.
In the Middle Ages Neustadt then had the position of a main residence in the Palatinate territory (next to Heidelberg).
Since the administrative reform of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate in 1969, the previously independent municipalities of Diedesfeld and Hambach on the Wine Route in the south of the city, the places Haardt, Gimmeldingen, Königsbach and Mußbach in the north and Lachen-Speyerdorf with Geinsheim in the east districts of Neustadt an der Weinstrasse.

The traffic is served by several bus lines that reach the city area and the surrounding area, where there is no rail connection. There are bus connections until around 9 p.m. After that there are scheduled taxis until around 1.00 a.m. They have to be booked in advance 1/2 hour before departure. There are also excursion and hiking bus routes to Hambach Castle, Kalmit and Kurpfalzpark. The Rhineland-Palatinate Ticket and the Nice Weekend Ticket are also recognized on all bus routes.
All buses meet on the station forecourt.
For large special events such as the grape harvest festival, normal bus traffic is condensed and also offered after 9 p.m.

The Calvinist University in Neustadt, newly founded by Count Palatine Johann Casimir in 1578 as an alternative university for the reformed Heidelberg and at that time the most important Calvinist university in Europe. Later reconstruction in the Renaissance style and used as a high school and today for events.
- 6 town hall, Marktplatz 1, 67433 Neustadt an der Weinstrasse. Former Jesuit College. Was built in 1729 and used as a Jesuit college until 1773. City administration seat since 1838.

The Railway Museum is a museum of the German Society for Railway History (DGEG). It is located immediately south of the main train station in a former locomotive shed that used to be used by the Neustadt depot. The focus of the museum is on vehicles from the former southern German state railways. The two last original steam locomotives from the Palatinate Railway era are preserved here, the Palatinate T 1 "Schaidt" and a Palatinate T 5. Vehicles from the time of the Deutsche Reichsbahn are an E 17, an ET 11 and the 18 505.
