Palestine or the Palestinian Territories is a country east of the Mediterranean Sea. It has been recognized by a narrow majority of the United Nations as an independent state called Palestine; many western countries, including the Netherlands and Belgium, have spoken out against this recognition, but are striving for a state of their own for the Palestinian people. In the Israeli view, the Palestinian Territories have self-government under the strict supervision of the Israeli army.

Language
The Palestinians speak Arabic. Although many also speak the language of the occupying forces, Hebrew, they do not like to do so. You can go a long way with English and French.
Arrive
You can enter Palestine from Israel by bus, taxi or (not recommended) rental car. Preferably use vehicles with Palestinian number plates and Arabic inscriptions; avoid vehicles with Israeli number plates and Hebrew lettering.
From Egypt you can illegally enter Palestine through one of the many tunnels dug under the mutual border. Be aware of serious difficulties if you are subject to passport and visa control during or after such an entrance.

Safety
Palestine is a state in the making that has yet to fight for its independence from the state Israel. Partly due to the ubiquity of the Israeli army and the radicalization of the Palestinians, especially in the Gaza Strip, it is decidedly unsafe in Palestine. It is relatively safe in recognized places of pilgrimage for Christians, such as Bethlehem.
