Bahrain is an island nation in the Persian Gulf, home to about 1.35 million people. It gets its name from the Arabic word 'bahrayn', which means two seas. It consists of 33 islands, of which Bahrain of the same name is clearly the largest. In 1932, Bahrain became the first Arab country in the region to discover and export petroleum.
