Language
A great diversity of languages is spoken in Southeast Asia; each country has its own language or language variant. For the traveler it is English the most important lingua franca — although in Laos and Cambodia (and to a lesser extent in Vietnam) knowledge of the French also be useful. It is also recommended that you bring a phrasebook that is fluent in the local language, especially if you are traveling outside the usual urban areas.
