The vestiges of the past and modern constructions blend perfectly there and numerous shows and operas. take place there throughout the year. Walking through the streets of Yerevan, the visitor discovers numerous shops and open-air markets where the stalls are full of colors. Sitting on a café terrace, he can enjoy a moment of relaxation and observe the intense life of the capital. Yerevan hosts various festivals throughout the year and has more than 40 museums and galleries. These highlight the country's history and its rich pictorial heritage. The many jazz clubs such as the Malkhas punctuate the nightlife of the capital. For five years, tourism in Armenia has developed a little more each year and primarily benefits Yerevan which alone brings together the majority of hotels, restaurants, bars and nightclubs in the country. The municipality is adapting by doing many development works and for its part, the Yerevan airport is undergoing major changes and the new terminal was completed in 2010.

Weather
Yerevan Precipitation diagram in mm
| Yerevan is located at the northeastern end of the Ararat High Plain, about 1000 meters altitude, 865 to 1,390 meters depending on the neighborhood. With a cold semi-arid climate, Yerevan experiences long, hot summers and cold, snowy winters. Winter is not a good time to travel to Yerevan because of the icy sidewalks and smoky restaurants. Spring offers a mild but sometimes humid climate with green hills dotted with wild flowers. The summer is very hot, but the long evenings in the cafes are pleasant and the fruits and vegetables delicious. Autumn is popular with everyone, with perfect weather and lots of fresh foods. |

Note: as of April 10, 2018
The second airport, civilian and military, in Erebouni (7,5 km center), is not intended for commercial purposes.
By train
Infrastructures and materials are from the Soviet era. The strained relations with Turkey and Azerbaijan do not facilitate this mode of transport, other than locally: Sévan, Tbilissi, Georgia ...
By bus
From Georgia, it is possible to travel Tbilisi - Yerevan by road in matchroutka, collective minibuses present throughout the former USSR.
Many possibilities exist from Tbilisi Central Station. However, departures also exist from Samgori station (Metro Line 1, south of the city) where prices may be more advantageous in order to avoid the tourist traps of the Central Station.
In January 2018, due to the closure of the main road axis between Georgia and Armenia via the center of the country, the journey was made through the region of Tavush, border ofAzerbaijan and classified red by the MAEDI. However the journey is worth the adventure, due to the beauty of the mountainous landscapes crossed with the climax of the journey along the Lake Sevan towards Yerevan.
The city is very well served by coaches, and mainly by minibuses. The trip costs 100 AMD.
By car
The road network is quite developed, the roads are sometimes damaged, and at night some roads in the suburbs are not lit. Traffic jams are quite frequent on the major axes of the city, even on four-lane avenues. All of Armenia's highways start in Yerevan.
By subway
![](http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/2/2d/Plan-metro-erevan.jpg/330px-Plan-metro-erevan.jpg)
A single metro line connects the city from north to south through 12 stations. It is rarely used, but the trip costs 100 AMD.
Circulate
By taxi
Most of the many taxis are old, yellow-orange in color. The price is discussed in Armenian. In 2013, no ride in Yerevan should be charged more than 1 500 AMD, or 1 000 AMD in the city center.
By bus, minibus, trams ...
The price is very correct, for a fast service, if you know the circuits.
By subway
Technical feat, national pride, but public disinterest, for this unique line, serving ten stations, 6 h - 23 h, despite a maximum price of 100 AMD.
By rental car
It takes 100 to 400 € for three days, in addition to gasoline, poor signage, and uncertain road conditions.

- Cascade – Designed by architects Alexander Tamanian and Jim Torosyan, the Cascade architectural complex is one of the most remarkable cultural sites in the city of Yerevan. Built in the 1970s, the monument measuring 118 meters high and 50 meters wide, nestles on a hill in the capital near the famous Place de France and Avenue du Nord. It is a huge stone staircase made up of 572 steps that offers a magnificent view of the whole city and the peaks of Mount Ararat. Inside the complex, since 2009, there has been a contemporary art center, the Cafesjian Center of Arts. The museum unveils 1,200 works : paintings, glass sculptures, drawings and reprographics by well-known contemporary artists such as Marc Chagall, Fernando Botero, Georges Braque, Andy Warhol are on display. Outside the Cascade, there is a statue of Alexander Tamanian at the entrance, numerous terraced gardens, beautiful fountains and statues. A veritable space for public strolling, visitors can rest there before letting themselves be carried away by the beauty of the landscape. You can admire contemporary sculptures in the paths of the main garden which become a magnificent open-air museum. The Cascade, arguably one of the most successful examples of Soviet architecture, is sometimes used as a gathering place and open-air performance hall. This architectural ensemble propels the Armenian capital to the rank of international city of art.
- Republic Square – The Republic Square was once named after Lenin where his huge statue stood (sculptor: S. Merkourov, architect N. Paremuzova, L. Vardanov), which was dismantled after the collapse of the Soviet Union. Republic Square (in Armenian Հանրապետության հրապարակ, Hanrapetutyan Hraparak), is one of the two centers (the second being the Place de La Liberté where the Opera House is located) of Yerevan, the Armenian capital. It is surrounded by five sets of buildings: the National Gallery of Armenia and the History Museum of Armenia, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Marriott Armenia Hotel, the Ministry of Transport and Communications and the Post Office, and the government palace. 2,750 fountains adorn its center. Four of the five buildings in the square (Government Palace, Hotel Armenia, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Transport and Communications and Post) were built between 1926 and 1958, the fifth (National Gallery and History Museum) not being completed than in 1975. All see their originality in the sculpted ornamentation, the use of arches and tuff (pink, cream and ocher). The architectural style is neo-Armenian.

Tsakhkadzor winter sports resort
- 1 Tsakhkadzor ski resort (Ծաղկաձոր) (in the marz of Kotayk, at 60 km northeast of Yerevan) – Tsakhkadzor resort is one of the most important winter sports resorts in Armenia. The area has about twenty pistes for all levels, five chairlifts and a butt lift. You can buy your ski pass and rent your equipment directly on site. The half-day costs around twenty euros for the package and the equipment.
Matchroutkas lines connect Yerevan to Hrazdan, which is less secure for Tsakhkadzor. However, you can end the journey to the foot of the slopes by taxi.
Another original way to get there is to try hitchhiking, which is quite common in Armenia because the country is safe. During the winter season, many Armenians travel between Tsakhkadzor and Yerevan during the day. You can try your luck when the slopes are closed.
