background

The entire main route mostly leads along the main ridge of the Jura and is supplemented by shorter access routes. The Jurahöhenweg was originally with red-yellow rhombuses Marked, because on many routes they have higher requirements than a normal, yellow-marked hiking trail, but are not yet really mountain hiking trails with red-and-white markings. Condition and surefootedness are required. Since 2008, the red and yellow diamonds have been replaced by yellow diamonds and the yellow signposts that are common in Switzerland for hiking trails are used along the routes.

The whole route is around 300 kilometers long and requires a pure hiking time of 90 hours.

getting there

The Jurahöhenweg can be stepped up without any problems and can only be walked on in sections. Many stages and intermediate stops can be reached by public transport. Appropriate access routes to the Höhenweg are marked from the nearby villages.

A special side branch forms the access from Basel off to the main route. This hiking trail leads in several daily stages over the northwestern mountains of the Swiss Jura to the main Jura ridge.

accommodation

Mountain accommodation is available on many Jura heights along the hiking route.

hike

The staging below is a recommendation. It is often possible to choose other stage locations.

As usual with Swiss hiking trails, the hiking times are based on an average performance of 4.2 km per hour on flat, easily accessible terrain. Deviations due to inclines, slopes or difficult terrain are also taken into account. Rest times are not included.

In addition to the two main routes, there are many variants, cross-connections and high-altitude access routes.

security

The main danger on this route clearly comes from the weather. However, there are also short sections on busy roads that require increased caution. The path is also very steep and narrow in some places, and extremely slippery when it is wet.

Please note that there are usually no wells on the Jura ridge, so you have to take water supplies with you for the whole day.

trips

There are cross connections from the main route to beautiful mountain landscapes and important viewpoints.
