Nals(Italian: Nalles) is a municipality with almost 2,000 inhabitants and is located on the South Tyrolean Wine Route. The place in the Etsch valley is also known as the rose village. Politically, Nals belongs to the Burgrave Office.

The municipality of Nals is located on the right bank of the Adige at the foot of the Tisenser low mountain range. It consists of the place Nals and the settlements 1 Untersirmian and 2 Obersirmian.

  • Nals is roughly in the middle between Meran and Bolzano (approx. 18 km each), from the MeBo can be reached via the slopes at Lana or at Terlan to Nals.

Tourist Attractions

  • 1  Ortisei. Parish church, founded in the 12th century. The current church was built between 1810 and 1814.
  • 2  Payrsberg Castle. Built in the 13th century, expanded in the 16th century. Part of the castle serves as a farm building, the older parts have fallen apart. Private property, cannot be viewed.
  • 3  Spiked castle. Built in the early Renaissance style. The castle is inhabited and there is a restaurant in the basement.
  • 4  Schwanburg. Located below Payrsberg Castle, built in the 14th century. The oldest private winery in South Tyrol is in the Schwanburg.
  • 5  St. Apollonia. The chapel was built around 1300. It can be visited, the key is available in the nearby restaurant.
