To know

Geographical notes

Palafitte Museum (Pfahlbauten) to Uhldingen-Mühlhofen
Best known for puzzles and board games, the Swabian city of Ravensburg it hides its size behind the facades of small towns

It consists of the coast of Lake Constance, known as Bodensee in German, and Upper Swabia (Oberschwaben) immediately north. Lake Constance itself is located between the Germany, Switzerland is Austria.

Only two Landkreise in the Lake Constance region actually have access to Bodensee - the Bodensee-Kreis appropriately named around Friedrichshafen, is Landkreis Konstanz, centered on the city homonymous. The other three Landkreise in the area - Biberach, Ravensburg is Sigmaringen - are in the center of Upper Swabia, with a gently hilly landscape and a series of medieval and Baroque castles and picturesque towns and villages. Although they are not immediately adjacent to the lake, they share a cultural and geographical continuum with the lake areas and, due to the small distance, are more often visited together.

It is worth noting that the Landkreis Lindau in Bavarian Swabia it also includes a small strip of the coast of the Lake Constance, with the city of Lindau which is an island on the lake.

At the table

Just as there are restaurants in the towns around the area, also consider some on the cruise ships with lakeside restaurants.

The cuisine of this area is influenced by the Swabian one, in fact there are several dishes on the menus of the restaurants that bear the name schwäbische (Swabian), like the Käsespätzle based on cheese.
