Romantic street - Romantische Straße

The romantic street leads to almost 460 kilometers from Main in Lower Franconia with a short detour to Tauberfranken in Baden-Wuerttemberg over the Bavarian administrative districts Middle Franconia, Swabia and Upper Bavaria in the Allgäu.

Emergence

The romantic street along romantic places and landscapes is the oldest holiday route in Germany. It originated at the beginning of the 19th century in the "German travel route number 1", it led from the Main to the Bavarian Alps. In 1950, at the beginning of the economic boom, the travel route was then named "Romantic street" re-established and today connects 29 officially guided locations along the route.
