Zhytomyr (ukr. Житомир, Żytomyr) - a city (approx. 280 thousand inhabitants) located on the Teterew River in the Volyn-Podolia Upland in Ukraine.

Characteristic

The city is the seat of the Zhytomyr Oblast and the largest center of that region. It is a significant economic, cultural and scientific center in this part of the country, with many industrial plants (machinery, metal, light and food industries are developing in Zhytomyr) and a large number of theaters, museums, secondary schools and universities. The city is an important trade center and transportation hub.
