The community Ohlstadt is a mountain village at the foot of the Heimgarten im Werdenfelser Land.
background
Ohlstadt lies in the Loisach valley between the Heimgarten (Bavarian Prealps) in the east and the nature reserve Murnau moss in the west, the first documentary mention of Ohlstadt is as "Auwolfstetin" in a deed of donation from the year 835. In the Middle Ages, the place had strong ties to the nearby monastery Schlehdorf.
The Main and State Stud Schwaiganger is a teaching, testing and specialist center for horse keeping with a tradition of more than a thousand years in horse breeding, documented dating back to 955, and currently over 500 horses. The stud was initially owned by the aristocracy and in 1493 became the property of the Schlehdorf Monastery. From 1610 the Schwaiganger belongs to the Graßlfing stud farm and was used as the summer residence of the Duchess Maria Anna from 1780 to 1790, during which time the residential buildings were greatly expanded. From 1808 to 1918 it was used by the military and the stables were expanded. The Bavarian state took over the administration of the stud farm in 1920; it is located just under two kilometers north of the town center.
Ohlstadt is internationally known for its Bobsledder: In the years from 1960 to 1979 Ohlstadt athletes won numerous national and international titles and world championships and gold medals at the Olympic Games. Names of Ohlstadt bobsleigh athletes are, for example: w: Wolfgang Zimmerer, Peter Utzschneider or w: Stefan Gaisreiter.

- cath. Parish Church of St. Laurentius: a church of St. Laurentius is first mentioned in 1085 as "ze Owelstat" and then in 1271 as the church of Aulstadt. The current building was rebuilt in the baroque style after a church fire in 1702 and was consecrated in 1762. The builder was Josef Schmutzer WessobrunnParticularly worth seeing inside the church is the altarpiece, it depicts the glorification of St. Laurentius and was painted in 1791 by Franz Zwink.
