Wallgau is a tourist community on the Isar and lies at the foot of Karwendel and Wetterstein in the Werdenfelser Land in Upper Bavaria.

The eponymous Gau "Walhogoi" is mentioned in a deed of donation from the monastery in 763 Scharnitz first mentioned in a document.
In the Middle Ages, agriculture, forestry and Isar rafting were the main livelihoods of the population, and tourism developed since the beginning of the 20th century.
For winter sports enthusiasts, Wallgau's best-known citizen is Magdalena Neuner, double Olympic champion in Vancouver 2010 and biathlon world champion.

By plane
The next major international airport is Munich Airport: Munich - Franz Josef Strauss (141 km, approx. One and a half hours by car). From here offer above all Lufthansa and their partner of Star Alliance Connections to cities in Germany, Europe and worldwide. As the second largest airport in Germany, it is connected to a growing number of cities.
The airport can also be reached quickly innsbruck (47 km, approx. Three quarters of an hour by car);

The nearest train station is Klais (in Krün, approx. 5 km), IC station on the route Munich - Garmisch-Partenkirchen - innsbruck;
In the street
- from the north (Munich): on the A95 motorway (Munich - Garmisch) to the end of the motorway at Eschenlohe, continue on the B2 federal road through Garmisch-Partenkirchen and turn off to Wallgau before Mittenwald.
- Or: Approach via the federal highway B12, past Kochel and Walchensee directly to Krün;
- from the south (Austria): From the A12 (Inntalautobahn), exit Zirl / West (west of Innsbruck), direction Garmisch over the Zirlerberg to Mittenwald and then to Wallgau;

in the winter
- Wallgau sled dog race, every year on a weekend in early March in front of up to 3000 spectators. The organizer is Wallgau ski club together with the Franconian Sled Dog Sports Club (FSSC). There are over 100 mushers with 800-1000 huskies (Siberian Husky, Alaskan Malamute, Siberian Samoyed) at the start. To avoid incidents, viewers should leave their own dogs at home.

In Wallgau there are no real shops for shopping, but you can find the essentials. Large supermarket chains are located in the neighboring town of Krün, which is not far away. Garmisch-Patenkirchen offers good shopping opportunities nearby.
