Krün - Krün

The tourism community Krün describes itself as a "mountain village" and is located in the upper Isar valley Werdenfelser Land, at the feet of Karwendel and Wetterstein in Upper Bavaria.

The oldest evidence of settlement in the region in documents from the monastery Scharnitz in the middle of the 8th century. The Schwaige "Chlos" (Klais) was first mentioned in 1255. The place name Krün is first recorded for 1294,

In the Middle Ages, agriculture and forestry are the main livelihoods in the village. The first hotel is opened on Barmsee in 1880, the beginnings of tourism.

By plane

The next major international airport is Munich Airport: Munich - Franz Josef Strauss (151 km, approx. One and a half hours by car). From here offer above all Lufthansa and their partner the Star Alliance Connections to cities in Germany, Europe and worldwide. As the second largest airport in Germany, it is connected to a growing number of cities.

The airport can also be reached quickly innsbruck (47 km, approx. Half an hour by car);

By train

The Klais train station (district of Krün) is on the route Munich (Starnberg wing station) - Garmisch-Partenkirchen - innsbruck and is a stop for Intercity.

• from the north (Munich): on the A95 motorway (Munich - Garmisch) to the end of the motorway at Eschenlohe, continue on the B2 federal road through Garmisch-Partenkirchen and turn off to Krün before Mittenwald

Or: Approach via the federal road B12, past Kochel and Walchensee directly to Wallgau;

• from the south (Austria): From the A12 (Inntalautobahn), exit Zirl / West (west of Innsbruck), turn towards Garmisch over the Zirlerberg and after Mittenwald to Krün;

The Elmau Castle was founded in 1916 by the writer and philosopher Johannes Müller Built according to plans by the architect Carl Sattler for his artistic circle of friends, and then a center for German cultural Protestant intellectuals. After the Second World War, it was initially used as a military hospital for the US troops, from 1951 as a rest home and then as a hotel. The castle is also developing into a center of chamber music, burned down in 2005, but was reopened as a luxury hotel in 2007;

The hotel is located several kilometers southwest of the Krun town center.
