Heimbach (Eifel) - Heimbach (Eifel)

Heimbach

Heimbach is a city in the northeifel in the valley of the Rur, below the Rursees and Mount Kermeter. A large part of Heimbach's territory belongs to the Eifel National Park. The next larger cities are the county seat Düren, the historic district town Schleiden, Euskirchen, Mechernich. The big cities Aachen, Bonn and Cologne are about the same distance (55 km). Heimbach belongs to the country North Rhine-Westphalia.

region

The following sub-regions of the Eifel touch Heimbach and its districts: Rursee, Rurtal, Rureifel, Kermeter, Pre-Eifel, Kalkeifel.

Districts

The districts are up to 12 km apart and are sometimes hardly perceived as a city that belongs together.

Rursee

Rabbit field lies at the Heimbach reservoir; the district Schwammenauel lies on the dam of the Rursee.

Rurtal

Hausen and Blens are, like parts of the main town, directly in the Rur valley.

Heimbachtal

The brook Heimbach is a tributary of the Rur, rises and flows into the urban area. The main town is located on its lower reaches Heimbach with the districts Heimbachtal, Kohnental and pasture. On the Kermeter, 200 m above the train station, is the Mariawald Abbey.

Catchment area of the Erft

Two districts of Heimbach are outside the catchment area of the Rur and also away from it Rurtalbahn. The watershed is clearly perceived by non-motorized people: Hergarten with the district Düttling and Vlatten with the uninhabited district Whale.

Neighboring communities

Some of the neighboring communities are closely related to the districts of Heimbach. Some of them are easier to reach from the city districts than the main town. There are signposted cycle paths to all neighboring communities.

In the North Eifel

Like Heimbach, these communities have a share in the Eifel National Park:

  • Partly in Rurtal lie
    • Simmerath, at the Rursee. The youth hostel is ideally located for cyclists by the dam of the Obersee. The connection with public transport is very cumbersome; however, you can also include the ships of the Rur shipping during the main season. Otherwise, Simmerath is best reached with your own vehicle (bicycle, car).
    • Nideggen, on and above the Rur valley; Especially the districts of Abenden, Berg and Wollersheim are ideal for looking for a district. The connection by public transport between the main towns (they are about 10 km away from each other) is a bit inconvenient (journey time about 1 hour), but the districts of Abenden and Brück are easily accessible.
  • Through the Kermeter is the urban area Schleiden separated from Heimbach; the main towns are 17 km apart. However, the Wolfgarten district is conveniently located on the summit plateau of the mountain for hikers Kermeter. The connection from the main town Heimbach by public transport is very sketchy. However, there are regular direct connections with regional buses from the districts of Vlatten and Hergarten.
  • Mechernich lies in the catchment area of the Erft. There is the nearest DB train station and the nearest hospital. The connections from the main town Heimbach are very cumbersome, from Vlatten a little better (from there 1 hour journey time with multiple changes). The main towns are about 18 km apart.

In the Cologne Bay

  • Zülpich is also in the catchment area of the Erft. The districts of Bürvenich and Eppenich are conveniently located to the eastern districts of Heimbach. The connections between the main towns by public transport are unfavorable; they are 17 km apart. The connection from Vlatten is a little better.
