background

Map of Travemünde

Travemünde is a district of Lübeck and is located at the mouth of the Trave in the Lübeck Bay of the Baltic Sea. With its extensive beaches in the village itself and on the Priwall on the opposite bank of the Trave, the place is primarily known as a holiday and bathing resort. Travelers to Scandinavia and the Baltic states also know Travemünde because of the Scandinavienkai, which with eight berths is the largest ferry port in Europe.

A specialty of Travemünde is the Priwall, a peninsula that is geographically to Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania belongs. The larger beach, a nudist beach, a dog beach and numerous holiday home areas are located on the Priwall. The local government's plans to continue building the Priwall with high-quality hotels and holiday homes by investors are controversial, as the Priwallers themselves see their peninsula as a "vacation area for the little people" (as opposed to fashionable Travemünde).
