On both military bases there are airports, which however are purely military. Tourists who want to visit these regions should first go to the airports Greek Cypriots or Turkish Cypriots, with particular regard, however, towards the latter given the political conditions of Northern Cyprus. Regarding Akrotiri, the most convenient airport is that of Paphos, while for Dhekelia those of are close Larnaca is Ercan (Northern Cyprus).
- 1 Royal Air Force Akrotiri (IATA: AKT), ☎ 357 25276788. It is the only operating airport in the overseas dependency, this is because the Dhekelia airport is in a state of disrepair and is rarely used.
South Ossetia
L'South Ossetia it does not have airports, and the closest are located in North Ossetia-Alania, more precisely in the city of Vladikavkaz. Obviously other airports can be located in Georgia, but it is almost impossible to then enter Ossetia by crossing the Georgian state line.
State of Palestine
Although 4 airports are recognized, one of which is international, these are all abandoned, uninhabitable or disused since the early 2000s and therefore it can be said that it is not possible to enter the State of Palestine exploiting air links. However, there are two heliports in the region.
- 2 Ramallah Heliport (IATA: ZDM) (Ramallah). It is an airstrip rebuilt after military attacks by the Israeli army. Here, two helicopters, mainly military and government (both foreign and Palestinian), can land at the same time, and there is also a mausoleum that can be visited. There was also a heliport in Gaza, but it is no longer accessible.
British Indian Ocean Territory
This addiction British does not have civilian airports given its essence as a military base. The only active airport is located on the atoll of Diego Garcia, but it is precisely a military stopover. In any case, entering this territory, whether by sea or not, is quite difficult if not impossible.
- 3 (Naval Support Facility Diego Garcia) (Diego Garcia). It is the only airstrip in the area, except that the landing ban for non-military or government aircraft is categorical.
