The Basel region lies in the northwestSwitzerland between the Jura Mountains and the German and French Border. The region includes the cantons Basel-Country and Basel city and parts of the cantons Aargau and Solothurn.

Politically, the Basel region is not a unit, it consists of four cantons, see above.

Basel city and Basel-Country were separated after a civil war in 1833 by a resolution of the Federal Diet. To date, there has been no reunification, as the residents of Basel-Landschaft feared higher taxes. The fact is, however, that the whole region is becoming less attractive (see Wikipedia.)

In geographical terms, the Basel region is the space between the Swiss Jura, the Rhine and the French language border.

By plane

The Euroairport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg, which is right next to Basel in France, is the closest airport. There is also a train connection with Zurich Airport.

Basel Carnival
