There are events that enrich a vacation and there are occasions that are worth planning a trip. The following list is intended to provide tips and suggestions.

Culture

  • The Colomansfest at the church in Schwangau is the largest religious festival in the region, it is celebrated annually on the Sunday before October 13th with a festival service, blessing of the mostly over 200 horses and a subsequent ride around
  • At Kolomani October 13th is Kirtag in Melk (Austria). On this day it makes sense to either drive around the city center or - which is more fun - simply join in the celebration.
  • In Berlin takes place in October and November Jazz Festival Berlin instead of. It is one of the oldest and most respected jazz events in Europe.

For Bremer this is it Fifth Season and the big motto is Ischa Freimaak. On the opening evening there is a large firework display over the Bürgerweide. On the second Saturday there is a parade with marching bands, floats and colorful groups. Start in Pappelstrasse in the Neustadt over the Bürgermeister-Smidt-Brücke to the city center. Continue on Obernstrasse, past the town hall, cathedral and market square, to Bürgerweide. The open market ends every 17 days on a Sunday.
  • Treasure market annually on the last weekend in October in Tengen (Hegau)
  • In October and November takes place in Muenster the Autumn end instead of. The largest fair in the Münsterland hosted. Showmen from all over Germany present nostalgic items as well as the latest rides.

  • Strontrace, from the Monday of the North Dutch autumn holidays), Workum in Fryslân . Sailing competition with old sailing cargo ships from Workum across the IJsselmeer to Warmond and back. When they leave Workum, the spectators are asked to support the ships in towing.
  • The Marathon in Zeeland takes place every year on the 1st weekend in October. 2019 is October 4th. It starts in Burgh-Haamstede. On Friday October 4th there is the "Ladies Run" (5 and 10 km) and in the evening the "Light Kustrun". It's an 11km run Domburg-West chapel-Zoutelande . The path is continuously illuminated and the participants are cheered on by musicians on the beach and the dike. There is also a hiking marathon from Burgh-Haamstede to Zoutelande.

  • In parts of Southeast Asia (Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand) overseas Chinese celebrate this in October or at the end of September (exact date varies) Festival of the nine imperial gods (also vegetarian festival called). You forego certain foods and beverages (especially meat) for nine days, instead there are special vegetarian dishes. At the climax of the festival, there are colorful processions in certain places, during which some participants in a trance seem to pierce their cheeks, run over fire or climb ladders made of swords.
  • During the same period, Hindus celebrate the nine-day festival Durga puja or Navratri in honor of the goddess Durga. This festival also culminates in the last of the nine nights. At different places India (especially in the eastern states around Calcutta), but also in countries with large Indian communities (e.g. Malaysia, Singapore) one can observe colorful processions, dance performances and ritual burning of demons.
