Esch (Alzette) Esch / Alzette (lux .: Esch-Uelzecht; German: Esch an der Alzette) is a town and municipality in the canton of Esch-sur-Alzette and is located in the region Southwest Luxembourg. Esch an der Alzette became the title for the year 2022 European Capital of Culture awarded.

background

The city is located in the south of the Grand Duchy and borders directly on the state border of France. It is the second largest city in the country with a multicultural population. The city used to be an industrial center and there is still a large ArcelorMittal steel mill in the western part of the city. But it is in the process of transforming itself into a university town.

In the street

By car from Luxembourg City on the A4 motorway. The route is only about 17 km long. From direction Saarland there is from the German border Schengen from a direct motorway connection to Esch-Alzette (A13).

There is a dense public bus transport system. The bus station is right next to the train station. The RGTR bus line 205 connects Esch-Alzette with Luxembourg City every 20 minutes during the day.
