Marktschellenberg is a climatic health resort in Berchtesgadener Land in Upper Bavaria.

The market town lies at the foot of the Unterberg in the valley of the Berchtesgadener Ache, almost directly on the border Austria.

Marktschellenberg was created in 1969 through a merger with the municipalities of Landschellenberg and Scheffau. The former Gnotes in the area of ​​today's municipality were Barmstein, Ettenberg, Götschen, Markt, Mehlweg, Oberstein, Schaden-Schneefelden, Scheffau-Neusieden, Unterstein.

Since December 2008, with the tourist card of the municipalities of Berchtesgaden, Schönau am Koenigssee, Bischofswiesen, Ramsau and Marktschellenberg, bus trips on the RVO lines in the association area have been subject to some restrictions free.

Germany's oldest marble ball mill is located at the entrance to the Almbachklamm. Coarse chunks of marble have been ground into spheres here using water power since 1683.
