Weißbach on the Alpine Road is a holiday community in Weißbachtal an der German Alpine Road and lies on the edge of the Chiemgau Alps in Upper Bavaria. The place advertises itself as the gateway to Berchtesgadener Land.

Weißbach is located in a forest clearing on a slope on both sides of the Weißbach.

Settlement of the Weißbachtal is dated to the 11th century. In 1346, Emperor Ludwig the Bavarian built a first fortified trade route along the route of today's Alpine Road. In 1618 the brine pipeline from Bad Reichenhall to Traunstein and leads over the ground of the church.

In 1883, Weißbach became an independent municipality, and Weißbach has been part of the municipality since 1978 Schneizlreuth, but compared to the Schneizlreuth district, from a tourist point of view, it has the better choice in terms of the number of restaurants and leisure establishments.

Tourist Attractions

  • cath. church St. Vincent, Rebuilt in 1949/50 on the site of the St. Anna saltworks chapel with the distinctive round tower. The frescoes in the modern interior are from Georg Gschwendner.
  • Weißbach Gorge, the white water run leads over about five kilometers in the deeply cut valley to Schneizlreuth and can be hiked through in about one and a half hours (only in summer, not recommended after rain because of the slippery route).
  • Glacier garden, right on the German Alpine Road (parking lot) between Weißbach and Inzell. The glacier cut and the glacier pots in the rocks by the roadside come from the Saalach Glacier from the last Ice Age and were covered by rubble, mud and rubble when it retreated 15 - 20,000 years ago and thus protected and only released again in 1935/1936 when the Alpine road was built placed.
  • Weissbach Falls: Can be reached after about an hour's walk on the Dammweg to the north.

  • Hiking trail along the former wooden brine pipeline from Bad Reichenhall to Traunstein: The Ladder to heaven leads with 420 steps to the old elevated tank 90 meters higher at the high point of the 19 km long brine pipeline, from here a panoramic view over the valley around Weißbach.
