background

The beauty queen of Schneizlreuth
... was on October 31, 1953 in Münchner Platzl opposite the Hofbräuhaus of Bally Prell sung for the first time. The humorous parody of the emerging beauty craze came from her father Ludwig Prell and made both the rustic Bavarian singer and the town of Schneizlreuth known throughout Germany. Bally Prell roamed the country as the beauty queen of Schneizlreuth for 28 years and was invited by the Berlin Senate, among others. The singer died on March 20th, 1982 at the age of 59.

Schneizlreuth is located in a basin at the confluence of the Weißbachtal in the Saalach, the center of the scattered settlement consists only of the church, the town hall and a few other houses.

Settlement of the Weißbachtal is dated to the 11th century, a Schnaezenreut estate was first mentioned in a document in 1285. In 1590 Schneizlreuth is a post office.

The brine pipeline from Reichenhall to Traunstein was built between 1611 and 1619; the wooden pipes for the 31 kilometer long brine pipeline were manufactured in Schneizlreuth, as the wood required for salt production was already running out around Reichenhall. The line was in operation until the 19th century.
