Location of the province of Palencia in Spain
General
With peaks up to 2500 m high, the Cantabrian Mountains form the border to the neighboring region. The rivers Carrión, Valdavia and Pisuerga, which are deeply carved into the limestone, come from this mountainous area. Further south the landscape merges into the Tierra de Campos, a fertile plateau at around 70 m above sea level. The province also became the Canal de Castilla dug, the originally economically important canal can now be seen more from a tourist and ecological perspective.
