The province lies in the former landscape of León in the west of the now autonomous region of Castile and León. The province has almost 200,000 inhabitants on an area of 10,559 km².

In the province of Zamora there are interesting historical places in beautiful landscapes. The Via de la Plata (Römerstraße) is particularly attractive. Place like Benavente, Valparaíso or La Hiniesta have sights to offer. There are numerous castles on the Duero route. In the 10th century the border between the Moors and Christians ruled area ran here.
Toro with its vineyards and Arribes del Duero are interesting places. The Sanabria Lake Nature Park is also worth a visit. The largest lake in Spain is surrounded by a beautiful mountain landscape.
