Transcantábrico

At the Transcantábrico it concerns two of the RENFE operated luxury tourist trains that offer up to one-week tours in the region in restored sleeping cars (built in 1923) from April to September. Different routes are on offer. There are two variants of the trains, one is the Gran Lujo, with a maximum of 28 passengers and the Tren Clásico, which offers space for 54. Both trains have dining and several saloon cars. The Gran Lujo costs from € 5150 p.p. in 2019, the Clásico, depending on the length of the tour (4-8 days), € 1700-3000.

Regular events

  • The community Santillana del Mar organizes the annual on January 5th Auto Sacramental y Cabalgata de Reyes de Santillana del Mar, the Eucharistic Festival and the procession of the Magi. The citizens re-enact various scenes about the birth of Jesus.
  • The Batalla de flores de Laredowho have favourited The Flower Battle of Laredo instead of. At 5.30 p.m. there is a parade through the streets with floats decorated with countless flowers. There is also a street market, music events and the selection of the most beautiful car. When it gets dark there is a Fireworks.
  • Both Las Guerras Cántabras, the Cantabrian Wars, is the reconstruction of Hispania's last resistance to Roman rule in the first century BC. The event takes place in Los Corrales de Buelna from the last weekend in August to the first weekend in September.
