Segovia is surrounded by the provinces Burgos, Soria, Guadalajara, Avila and Valladolid as well as from the Autonomous Community of Madrid.

The south of the province is predominantly forested, it belongs to Iberian Scheidegebirge. The Sierra de Guadarrama reaches heights of up to 2,400 m, in the area around the 1858 m high pass Puerto de Navacerrada even winter sports are possible. Most of the remainder belongs to the Meseta Central plateau and is a rather sparsely populated plateau, it is used for agriculture, with a focus on pig farming.

The province has around 163,000 inhabitants, around one in three lives in the capital Segovia, the rest is spread over 200 villages, some of which are very small.
